UNITED'S GALA DINNER RAISES £160K FOR UNICEF

Image
Jose Mourinho and his Manchester United squad were out in force on Wednesday evening as they attended the prestigious United for Unicef Gala Dinner at Old Trafford. The 18th annual event raised a fantastic £160,000 for Unicef, the world’s leading children’s organisation. Offering fans the chance to rub shoulders with their footballing heroes, the black-tie event is always a highlight of the club’s social calendar. This year, it was hosted by television presenter and lifelong United supporter Rachel Riley and BBC Sport broadcaster Mark Chapman, while the main entertainment was provided by British grime superstar Stormzy, who stole the show with a performance of his latest single  Blinded by Your Grace. Stormzy, another longstanding fan of the Reds and friend of the club, was pleased to donate his time for Unicef, and to return to Old Trafford following his album signing in the Megastore earlier this year. "It’s a pleasure; things like this for me are an opportunity to...

RESERVES: UNITED 2 ATHLETIC CLUB 1

Premier League International Cup | Leigh Sports Village Stadium | Scorers: Wilson 47, Hamilton 82 | Guruzeta 9 Manchester United's Reserves may have trailed to  Gorka Guruzeta's stunner for Athletic Club at the break but Ricky Sbragia's side recovered to record a second successive win in the Premier League International Cup with goals by James Wilson and Ethan Hamilton. Marcos Rojo  played the opening 45 minutes  to begin his comeback after suffering a serious knee injury against Anderlecht last April. The hosts started brightly, with Wilson hooking over the bar from a difficult half-chance and Hamilton kept out by Hodei Oleaga at his near post. Yet Bilbao struck first in impressive fashion with a goal of real quality. Demi Mitchell misjudged Inigo Vicente's pass but the punishment was ruthless, Guruzeta leaping to meet the ball on the volley as it bounced up, sending a sublime shot with the outside of his foot past Kieran O'Hara. Mitchell had a chance to make amend...

With thanks to  MUTV , and newspaper reports at the time, we look back at the first-leg stalemate at the Kosevo Stadium in the former Yugoslavia, now the Bosnian capital. Following a goalless encounter in the previous round at Hibernians Malta, the same scoreline was deemed a positive result ahead of the second leg at Old Trafford. It proved to be a difficult tie, despite the hosts being down to 10 men, and one that was big on controversy... How did it feel to play at such a historic location? "Sarajevo had quite a history, world history, of course," said David Sadler, in reference to the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand that sparked World War I. "Footballers weren't terribly interested in that, I guess, but we were very much aware of it. It was very different to Malta. The Sarajevo people supported their team and they r...
